Denmark Enhances Soldier Optics with 10,000 Swarovski Binoculars Order
In a recent move to enhance battlefield readiness and optical capabilities among its infantry and defense forces, the Danish Army—through its logistics division DALO—has officially placed an order for 10,000 units of Habicht series binoculars manufactured by the renowned optics company Swarovski. This procurement, which exemplifies Denmark's commitment to equipping its military personnel with premium-grade equipment, was facilitated via GRANDT DEFENSE APS, the distributor assigned to manage the transaction.

The order consists of three distinct models of binoculars, each tailored to fulfill the specific requirements of different branches within the Danish Army. The largest portion of the order, totaling 5,000 units, comprises the Habicht 8x30 binoculars. These are designated for all combat infantry troops and are expected to serve as standard field optical tools. Designed for durability and clarity, this model balances performance and compactness—ideal for use in dynamic field conditions.
An additional 4,000 binoculars of the Habicht 7x42 model are allocated for members of the Home Guard. This paramilitary group plays a vital role in Denmark’s territorial defense and internal security operations. The slightly larger aperture of the 7x42 model offers superior light-gathering ability, ensuring better visibility under low-light conditions often encountered during surveillance or patrol duties. Finally, 1,000 units of the Habicht 10x40 binoculars are reserved specifically for officers and commanding personnel. With their extended range and refined magnification, this variant supports strategic oversight, allowing leaders to survey landscapes and coordinate maneuvers with greater precision.
Delivery of the equipment is scheduled in stages. The initial batch, consisting of the 8x30 units, is set for completion by December 2025, with distribution to infantry units continuing until September 2026. This timeline reflects a phased deployment that ensures smooth logistical integration and minimal operational disruption.
Swarovski’s Habicht binoculars have long been trusted by the Danish military for their exceptional build quality and optical performance. The lenses are engineered to deliver sharp, high-contrast images that stand up to demanding field environments. Housed in sturdy aluminum bodies, these binoculars are also equipped with integrated laser protection filters—a crucial feature in modern combat scenarios where laser threats are increasingly prevalent.
Furthermore, the binoculars are built with water and dirt resistance, achieved through an external rubber coating that shields the body from environmental hazards. This rugged design supports long-term use without compromising comfort, even when soldiers wear protective eyewear. The ergonomic handling and durable structure ensure that the binoculars remain reliably functional across a wide range of conditions. Notably, they are impact-resistant and do not require recalibration after drops or knocks, making them a practical choice for high-mobility operations.
Denmark's decision to invest in high-performance optical gear underscores its focus on operational excellence and soldier safety. These binoculars are more than just tools—they are vital instruments that empower troops to observe, engage, and respond more effectively on the modern battlefield. With this acquisition, Denmark strengthens not only the tactical capacity of its forces but also their ability to adapt to diverse terrains and challenges with greater confidence and clarity.
