  • Incorporates digital technology to enhance operator and maintainer functions.

Optional Features

  • Integral Stealth Shield to reduce ship’s radar cross-section (RCS).
  • Muzzle Velocity Radar to update FCS deviations.
  • Multi Feeding Device for automatic handling and selection of ammunition.
  • OTO STRALES system for guidance of the OTO DART projectile.

Components & Operation

Key Components & Systems

  • Digital Control Console (DCC):
Replaces older systems, offering enhanced digital integration, advanced functions, and simplified maintenance.

  • Combat Management System (CMS) Integration:
Links the gun to the ship’s tactical picture for seamless operation and coordinated targeting.

  • Strales Kit (for guided ammunition):
Add-on system enabling use of DART guided shells.
Features a Radio Frequency (RF) Guidance System with antenna integrated into the gun shield for precise tracking.

  • Multi-Feed Magazine:
Allows rapid switching between different ammunition types (e.g., standard rounds, DART shells).
    Provides flexibility against varied threats.

  • New Generation Ammunition:
Includes programmable fuzes (such as 4AP and Vulcano).
Guided DART shells with advanced proximity and time fuzing for anti-missile roles.

Firing Characteristics

  • Selectable firing rate: single shot to 120 rounds per minute.
  • Tactical time: less than 3 seconds.
  • Accuracy: standard deviation less than 0.3 mrad.

Loading System

  • Automatic loading via revolving magazine.
  • Rapid reloading possible during firing by two ammunition handlers.

Programmable Fuse Compatibility

  • Ready for Leonardo Defence Systems OTO 3AP Multifunction Programmable Fuse.

Control Console Capabilities

Basic Functions

  • Gun control algorithms and obstacle contouring.
  • Built-In Test Equipment (BITE) online.
  • FCS interfaces (digital, analogical, CORBA protocol).
  • Control panel interfaces and man-machine interface.

Expanded Functions

  • Maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Online documentation (manuals and PMS).
  • Log book for management support.
  • Guidelines and black box functionality

Sensors & Fire Control System

  • Detection & Tracking:
Ship’s main sensors (radar, EOMS-NG) detect threats and feed data to the CMS.

  • Targeting:
CMS or the gun’s DCC designates targets.
Gun’s own tracking system supports engagement of high-speed manoeuvring threats.

  • Engagement:

    • Standard Ammunition: Fired automatically, with programmable fuzes for airburst (proximity) or impact.
    • DART Guided Ammunition (with Strales): RF Guidance System directs the shell to the target, even at sea level.
    • Rapid Fire: High firing rate (up to 120 rounds per minute) with rapid reloading for sustained or multi-target engagements.

Technical Specifications

  • Rate of fire: 120 rounds per minute.
  • Dry weight (without ammunition): 7,900 kg.
